ZDoom 2.3.0 and More 2009-03-04 01:48:17

After a year, Randy has released a new version of ZDoom. This release includes a few of my own changes namely Chex Quest support and a great deal of new SBarInfo features. The release also uses SBarInfo to render the Doom status bar. Head on over to zdoom.org to check out the new release.

This means that SBarInfo will be coming out of its feature freeze, so expect Heretic's status bar to go scripted soon. Of course there are other things eating my time right now so it will probably be another few weeks before I can get to that, or any other projects for that matter.

Public development is slow from me right now, but I may or may not have something to show mid April. Depending how I feel about the end product.

Strife Dialog Editor version 0.6 released. 2009-01-31 20:55:14

Version 0.6 of the Strife Dialog Editor has been released. The only difference is the addition of the ability to export to the newly developed Universal Strife Dialog Format. Importing is not available due to a pending rewrite for inclusion with Simple Doom Editor.

Go to the Strife Dialog Editor page to download.

December Update 2008-12-29 07:08:31

And so yet another month has past.

On the topic of Simple Doom Editor, I'm shooting for getting a first release sometime in first quarter 2009, but I can't make any promises here. There are three things holding back the release at the moment, the console interface, the lack of the plugin system (and so basically the lack of any internal editors), and the need for more format conversions. I'm currently trying to takle the third issue mentioned.

While on the topic of BitOwl products. I may end up cancelling BitOwl Application Suit 2.0 since I've really had a lack of interest in developing web applications. I've grown to like using strongly typed languages such as Java and C++. But we'll see how things go on this topic. In other development news, my second monitor isn't functioning well and so I'll probably be playing a lot of video games for awhile. (Yeah, I'm spoiled by the second monitor.)

The Skulltag team released a new version of Skulltag for Christmas. This version has a few of my contributions (in particular SECTINFO support and Domination). Check out the release thread if you would like.

Speaking of Christmas. I've finally got my hands on a copy of the Doom Boardgame (and it's expansion kit). I haven't played it yet so I can't say anything on how it is. Among things like a new, old laptop, some movies, and a cell phone (my first cell phone I should add). I've gotten Need for Speed: Undercover, which just now I realize is infected with EA's famous DRM. I probably should have strayed from the PC version now that I think about it. Oh well.

I think that wraps up everything for the year.
